Lagos CP bows to pressure, orders immediate release of Mr Macaroni, 34 other protesters

Lagos police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the immediate release of protesters arrested at the Lekki Toll Plaza on Saturday.

The protesters gathered at the Lekki tollgate to stop the government from allowing Lekki Concession Company (LCC) resume toll collection until the dozens of Nigerians shot by soldiers at the venue last October get justice.

Popular comedian Mr Macaroni (real name: Debo Adebayo) was among those, 35 in number, arrested beaten up.

Police ferried them in a Black Maria to Area J in Elemoro, Ibeju Lekki, but would now have to free them following the commissioner’s order.

Before Odumosu ordered their release, activist Rinu Oduola had warned the Babajide Sanwo-Olu government the protests would continue until justice is served.

Prominent politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, also joined the call for their release.
