Jangebe girls still with bandits — Zamfara police commissioner

The scores of students kidnapped from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Jangebe, are still in captivity, Zamfara police chief Abutu Yaro has said.

He made the comments after reports said the schoolgirls, numbering over 300, had been released to an emir in the state and would be transported to the state capital to meet Governor Bello Matawalle.

Yaro said that the police in collaboration with other security agencies and the state government were intensifying efforts that would lead to the safe rescue of the students.

“The attention of Zamfara State Police Command has been drawn to the news currently trending on some online media platforms that the abducted students of Government Girls Science Secondary school Jangebe in Talata Mafara LGA have been released,” a police statement read, Sunday.

“From the records available to the police command, the abducted students have not been released.

“However, the command in collaboration with other security agencies and the state government are intensifying efforts that will lead to the safe rescue of the students.”
