I am the lord of Amotekun — Seyi Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde has told Nigerians to hold him responsible for the actions of Amotekun in Oyo State.

The governor gave the charge at the passing-out ceremony of the Amotekun Corps, a regional police unit, in Oyo Town.

Makinde said although Amotekun would collaborate with federal security units, he, as the chief security officer of Oyo, would be responsible for the actions of Amotekun in his state.

“Members of the corps will be drafted to all the 351 wards in Oyo State,” Makinde said.

“As I have stated before, they will be answerable to me and so, I will be responsible for their actions,” he said.

Amotekun, oficially named The Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), was established to address security concerns and the lack of state policing in the country.

But “for governors to really play the role of Chief Security Officers of their states, state policing is the way forward,” Makinde said.

“I am confident that someday, we will get enough support at the national level to achieve that constitutional review.”
