GOFAMINT demands answers from Buhari as pastor, pregnant wife are killed in Benue

On the night of December 15, gunmen broke into a home in Agboughul area of Makurdi, Benue State and killed a man and his wife.

The slain man, Moses Udam, was the pastor of City of Glory Assembly in Makurdi. His wife, Nkechi, was pregnant.

Images of the home shot in the aftermath of the deadly attack depicted a bloodily gruesome killing.

Pastor Udam was also a lawyer and a human rights activist. There are suspicions he was targeted for his activism. He had only recently moved into the house with his wife.

Elsewhere in the community, the attackers slained a blind old man identified as Nyikyor Mazugu. Three other people were injured during the raid on several homes.

Governor Samuel Ortom visited the area in daytime and blamed the attack on “Fulani jihadists”. He said the attack was similar to another armed herdsmen militia carried out at Tse-Angbande four days before Pastor Udam and his pregnant were killed.

Ortom reportedly said the series of attacks were a grand plan to whittle down operations of Livestock Guards and Agro Rangers who are doing very well in containing attacks on communities and enforcing the ranching law of the state.

In the wake of the pastor’s tragedy, the leadership of the Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop being aloof and do his job of securing the lives and property of Nigerians.

“This country cannot continue like this,” GOFAMINT deputy general overseer Pastor Emmanuel Oluwayemi, said in a statement issued on behalf of general overseer Pastor Elijah Abina.

“So, the government has to wake up and do something urgently about our security situation.

“The deliberate aloofness of the President and the detachment from the people at the corridors of power is scary and sickening.

“An end must come to this,” GOFAMINT demanded.
