Femi Adesina lands in Umuahia for Abia Social Media Converge

All is set for today’s Abia Social Media Converge, a Valentine’s Day programme during which Governor Okezie Ikpeazu will rub minds with the youth.

Presidency spokesperson Femi Adesina is also set to deliver a speech on social media and governance during the event that will kick off by 2pm at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Government House, Umuahia.

Adesina landed in Umuahia on Saturday.

Abia House Speaker Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji will prominently feature as a notable moderator.

Ikpeazu, insiders say, chose Valentine’s Day to show love to Abia youth.

Media coordinator for the day, Don Norman Obinna, urged Abia youth to seize the opportunity to ask Ikpeazu any question.

“It’s time to see Ikpeazu face-to-face,” he said.

“If you called it a town hall meeting, you are right. As the name suggests, the novel Abia Social Media Converge will serve as a meeting point for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the Abia youth on tenterhooks for an opportunity to interact with him in a convivial atmosphere devoid of bureaucratic procedures.

“It will give the governor a firsthand assessment of his government, his performance so far, the people’s disappointments, expectations and the area of improvement.

“Importantly, we will ask him all the questions relating to governance, salary/pension conundrum, infrastructure and dilatoriness.

“The uneducated and unexposed see the digital natives (social media users) as smart and intelligent people; hence the converge. Absence or boycott will not justify the confidence reposed in us by them, our feisty online activism and campaign for good governance.

“Please, come, let us make the people we elected to serve us accountable to us. It is our opportunity to demand their stewardship. Let us maximise it to the best rewarding proportion.

“Our pensioners deserved to know the reason for the non-payment of their allowance/gratuity. We will serve as the mouthpiece of the civil servants who may be afraid to demand a few clarifications from the governor. Our absence is a disservice to our aged parents, the village farmers and the less privileged who do not have access to the governor.

“We have to make this rare opportunity count by rising to the challenges of democracy and elitism,” he said.

The event will, however, not be all about politics.

“There will be games, prizes to be won, networking, suya party and so on,” the organisers said.
