EFCC workers face salary deductions over late-coming, Bawa warns

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa has said that workers in the commission must embrace punctuality.

Bawa noted that it is unacceptable to come late and expect to earn a full salary.

Bawa stated that workers should be at work by 8am and close by 5pm, but anyone who chooses to come by 9 am and close by 3pm should not expect a full salary.

The new EFCC chairman sounded the warning on Monday when he met with the workers of the commission at the headquarters, while urging them to be dedicated to their duties.

According to a release from the commission, Bawa stated that he was, however, going to be firm and would not tolerate indiscipline in any form, including lateness to work and indecent or improper dressing.

“The rule says you must be in the office by 8am and close by 5pm if you have no pending work,” Bawa said.

“But it is unacceptable for you to come in by 9am and close by 3pm and you expect to earn a full salary.

“All staff are important in this fight against corruption from the top to the least. So, I invite everyone to bring ideas and best practices that will help to organise and recalibrate the commission in order to make it a better place.

“I am a part of you and I know the challenges,” he added.

He assured that he would operate a policy of open door for easy access by staff and publicly gave out his telephone number.

Bawa also promised to prioritise staff welfare and systems improvement through application of digital technology and intelligence during his tenure.

He disclosed that a Directorate of Intelligence would soon be created as the hub of Intel creation to bolster the Commission’s investigation activities.

Bawa also visited the EFCC Abuja Zonal Office and the EFCC Academy where similar meetings took place.

At Idiagbon House, home of the Abuja Zonal office, Bawa was received by the Zonal Head, Ahmed Sa’ad Abubakar, and other senior officers.
