Buhari pushing Nigerians into the hands of terrorists — Reno Omokri

President Muhammadu Buhari’s silence and invisibility is pushing an increasing number of Nigerians into the hands of dangerous figures.

This is according to former presidency aide Reno Omokri.

Omokri worked under President Goodluck Jonathan who, like his predecessor Olusegun Obasanjo, interfaced regularly with Nigerians and the media via presidential chats.

But Buhari has not held a presidential media chat — usually a live interview section with opportunities for Nigerians to call in — since December 30, 2015, six months after his first democratic term began.

Apart from that, the president, except during official foreign trips, rarely grants interview to the media.

Omokri said Buhari’s departure from the norm is having a dangerous effect on the people he swore to lead and protect.

“Former President Obasanjo had monthly presidential media chats,” he said in a social media post on Friday.

“Former President Goodluck Jonathan also had presidential media chats. But when was the last time Nigerians heard from General Muhammadu Buhari?

“Leadership is audiovisual. Citizens need to see and hear from their leader.

The reason the Israelites ran after other gods is because they had not seen nor heard from Moses in a while. And the reason the South-East is flirting with Nnamdi Kanu (a Biafra separatist), and the South-West with Sunday Igboho (a Yoruba nation separatist), is because they see and hear from these individuals more than they do from Buhari.

“Even Boko Haram’s Abubakar Shekau understands this leadership principle better than Buhari. As evil as Shekau is, he still regularly connects with his evil forces by consistently having video chats with not just them, but with other Nigerians. He understands the power of connection.

“How can Nigerians hear more from a terror leader than their own leader?”
